Testing the Structural Strength of 50mm Premium Square Tubing
When engineering outdoor fixtures like sliding gates or luxury patio frames, material deflection is your worst enemy. In this bench test, we put standard commercial-grade steel tubing through its paces to see how it holds up under structural duress and high-stress welding processes.
Many manufacturers use a 1.6mm wall thickness to save costs, but our actual garage testing proved that under heavy cross-loads, 1.6mm can distort slightly when running intense hot weld seams. Moving to a true heavy-gauge 2.0mm profile completely eliminates warpage and guarantees square alignments stay true over years of operational wear.
The zinc-coating or raw finish options also make a massive difference in finishing coats. Raw mild steel provides excellent electrical conductivity for seamless arc and MIG welds, provided you seal it properly immediately afterward with high-quality twin-pack anti-corrosive primer.
